It's difficult to imagine the role of Cedric Diggory going to anyone else besides Robert Pattinson. That being said, Patitinson only got the audition in the first place because the casting director felt sorry for him. It was to be his first official acting credit To make matters worse, no one told Pattinson that he had been cut from the movie until he showed up to the screening of it.
The casting director felt so horrible about it, that she offered him the chance to audition for another movie she was casting: Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. Pattinson ended up being the very first person to audition for the movie because of this. While many other actors auditioned after him, he obviously ended up snagging the role. Thestrals are horse-like creatures who can only be seen by those who can appreciate death. At least, that's what J. Rowling claims. Rowling states that just witnessing a death isn't enough to see a Threstal.
Therefore, while Harry saw Lily die in front of him, he was only a baby and couldn't fully understand what had happened enough to see a Thestral. When Harry was leaving Hogwarts at the end of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire , he still can't see the Threstrals even though he had been with Cedric when Cedric died. Many say that this was because Harry was still in shock and hadn't fully come out of it yet to the point where he could fully understand the death and thus see a Threstral.
It isn't until Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix that Harry could see the Threstrals because Cedric's death had finally become real to him. Cedric had stronger willpower than most. This is shown when he denied Fleur even after she used special magic on him.
Fleur is part Veela. For those who don't know or might not remember, this means that she has a special type of magic that doesn't require a wand.
Those who are Veela are usually very beautiful, like Fleur. Being part Veela, Fleur has a lot of influence on the boys at Hogwarts-- specifically Ron. However, Fleur had an interest in Cedric. She ended up asking him to the Yule Ball, but Cedric said "no" to her because he had already asked Cho. Supposedly, this shows how strong-willed Cedric was because not just anyone could say "no" to Fleur's beauty and Veela charm. She had a magic ability to capture the attention of the opposite sex, after all.
Davies was obviously much more vulnerable when it came Veela powers. There are plenty of famous Hufflepuffs , but Cedric was the only Hufflepuff peer of Harry's who had any true significance throughout the series.
While other students are mentioned throughout the novels, Cedric is really the only one who actually causes turmoil within the story line and has some form of impact. This is probably due to the fact that: 1 everyone wants to be a Gryffindor for obvious reasons and 2 Hufflepuffs weren't very active throughout the series-- with the exception of Cedric.
Since Cedric is the only main influence in the series that is a member of the Hufflepuff house, it's needless to say that Hufflepuff is the least liked house out of all of them. Even Newt Scamander , portrayed by Eddie Redmayne, hasn't been able to influence anyone to join the badgers.
You might recognize Henry Cavil as Superman. However, before he found DC comic fame, Cavil was just a struggling actor just like the rest of them. Cavil auditioned for the role of Cedric back when he had very little acting credits to his name.
But, Cedric quickly comes around. Click the infographic to download. When Harry is struggling with the golden egg clue for the second task, Cedric is the one who suggests that Harry take the egg into the prefects' bathroom and think about it while in water. Without this assistance, we think it would never have dawned on Harry that the second task involved merpeople certainly never occurred to us.
This trend of mutual cooperation ends with their decision to share the Triwizard Cup in the third task. Harry also tells Cedric to watch out for the giant spider. Because of Harry's help, Cedric refuses to take the Triwizard Cup by himself, even though, in doing so, he's "walking away from the sort of glory Hufflepuff House hadn't had in centuries" Harry suggests that they share the Cup: "It's still a Hogwarts victory" They take the Cup at the same time, and they're both transported to the Little Hangleton graveyard.
Cedric, however, apparently does nothing to try and give himself a competitive edge, and merely waits for instructions. If not for Harry tipping him off about the Dragons, Cedric, woefully unprepared, might have fared disastrously in that event. Cedric always acts fairly with Harry, even when they are directly in competition with each other in the Tri-Wizard Tournament; Harry believes it is only fair to provide Cedric the same information that the other champions have learned regarding the first task; in return, Cedric later gives Harry a hint for solving a riddle related to the second task.
As mentioned above, when Cedric feels that Hufflepuff unfairly won the Quidditch match against Gryffindor, he demands a rematch. Their relationship lasts until Cedric's death during the Tournament. It is unknown if they would have lasted as a couple, but Cho is deeply affected by her loss. Cedric, apparently an only child, is close to his parents, particularly his father, Amos, though the modest Cedric always seems mildly perturbed by Amos' constantly touting his son's accomplishments.
Cedric's parents are devastated by their son's death. Cedric's father, Amos Diggory , appears to be creating a competitive atmosphere where none exists — casting Cedric's Quidditch win over Gryffindor as a great victory when Cedric would rather attribute it entirely to luck, and by making the rivalry between Harry and Cedric during the Triwizard Tournament into more than either boy is comfortable with. This is an all-too-common tendency of a father trying to live through his child's accomplishments.
Another editor has pointed out that Cedric somehow becomes a seventh-year student in book 4, after being a fifth-year student in book 3. She had a Parseltongue prophecy stored inside a hissing oil lamp which said: "When spares are spared, when time is turned, when unseen children murder their fathers: then will the Dark Lord return" CC3.
Since Cedric was called "the spare" by her father, Delphi believed that only by going back in time to save the "spare" Cedric could she create a new world in which Voldemort had never died and they could rule the Wizarding World together.
In one trip back with the Time-Turner, Scorpius and Albus used an Engorgement Charm to float Cedric out of the Lake in an attempt to "humiliate Cedric to save Cedric," as Scorpius put it, but the result caused an unintended future CC2.
Cedric survived as an angry young man who later became a Death Eater, and killed Neville Longbottom at the Battle of Hogwarts. He told Albus that he came to visit the grave often because. He could have played Quidditch for England. Or been a brilliant Auror. He could have been anything. And Amos is right — he was stolen. So I come here. Just to say sorry. When I can. Cedric is a name invented by Sir Walter Scott for a character in his novel "Ivanhoe", based on the name Cerdic , the name of the legendary founder of the kingdom of Wessex in the 6th century.
Its meaning is uncertain Behind the Name. Diggory as a surname is not researched. The name is possibly a nod to one of the main characters in C. Lewis' Narnia tales, Digory Kirke Wikipedia.
Being a Hufflepuff, the name Diggory may also be a reference to badgers digging holes in the ground. The surname Digger is derived from someone who held the important position of maintaining a dyke or ditch Internet Surname Database.
